Is Your House Clutter Taking Over?
Posted by: | Comments
Remember that delaying the de-cluttering will only increase the amount that you have to de-clutter when you finally get around to it!
- It’s all about expectations! Do not EXPECT to de-clutter your home in an afternoon. If it took you years to collect the clutter, it will take several days to sort through it.
- Try de-cluttering and organizing one room at a time.
- When de-cluttering bedroom closets remember the rule that if you haven’t worn it in the last year, throw or donate it. Out with those 1980s jackets with big shoulder pads! Be ruthless.
- De-clutter the children’s bedrooms at least once a year – Toys, books, games and clothes need to be sorted through and donated if “gently used”.
- Kitchen cupboards need to be emptied, and food past the “best before” date needs to be trashed immediately. Don’t forget to check those spices.
- Bathrooms can be a hoarding area for medicines, toiletries and cosmetics. Remove items from the vanity cabinets and drawers, vacuum and then wipe the inside. Take a look at the items and decide what you REALLY need located in these areas. Discard anything that has an expired date on it.
Before you sit back and enjoy your tidy home, donate your gently used items to a local charity in your community such as Child Crisis Center in Mesa. For donation locations please visit www.childcrisis.org. The Child Crisis Center was founded in 1981 and has a mission to create strong families and safe kids. It is committed to preventing child abuse and neglect, providing emergency shelter and strengthening families through programs and education.
Now you can sit back, relax and enjoy the S P A C E around you! If you need your house or office cleaned after the de-clutter please contact Clean ‘N Fresh Cleaning at 480-821-1481
Home Office De-Clutter Time
Posted by: | Comments
It’s that time of the year when we are busy gathering documents and paperwork ready for tax preparation. It the PERFECT time to get that home office organized. When your office is cluttered and disorganized it hinders creativity and productivity. How can you get started on a project when you can’t even find the paperwork to get started?
Home offices can be a magnet for important items such as unpaid bills and high priority work tasks, but it can also be the place where “things” are left because they have no permanent place to live in the home. When the two are mixed together chaos ensues.
If you have a lot of paperwork you will need to get a filing cabinet and a filing system underway. Reserve a space in there for work and home paperwork and label label label. If you can place the filing cabinet within easy reach from your desk do so. Keep a recycling bin close by to help prevent unwanted paperwork cluttering the floor. Keep a shredder in the office for destroying sensitive information that identity thieves would have a party with.
Keep pens and pencils neatly in a pot near or on the desk. Make sure unpaid bills are on a notice board in clear view or keep them in a separate clear plastic file close by in view. You can even write on a whiteboard in the office when each bill is due and check it has been paid promptly.
If you have a bookcase or shelving in the office, remove the books that you are highly unlikely to use and store them out of sight. Lastly, relocate ”things” that do not belong in the home office. The idea is to de-clutter and focus the mind, so that creativity and productivity flow again.

Step into the De-Clutter Zone
Posted by: | Comments
Before we clean, we need to de-clutter. If you can’t see the floor for the shoes and toys, or the counters for the bills and magazines, your house is talking to you. Tidy me NOW before I disappear under all this! To get yourself in “the de-clutter zone”, envision your house de-cluttered and clean! Open your eyes and try to hold onto that vision.
Schedule time to de-clutter, or we find a million and one excuses not to begin. Rather than putting off the “worst room” in the house until last, walk into it now and take a note of the problem areas in that room. Establish why the room is messy and untidy in certain areas. For example, if it’s the laundry room scattered with unmatched shoes, dirty laundry and school bags, establish why it looks the way it does. Do you have a system already? If so, where is it breaking down?
Look at each item in the room and decide if it needs to go in the
- Keep
- Donate
- Recycle or
- Trash pile.
Then distribute the piles to their respective places. Be sure to check with other family members beforehand. In fact, make it a family task!
If you are finding it hard to schedule a block of time in for de-cluttering, why not focus on an area in a room and spend 20 minutes de-cluttering that. Small steps can also get you to a clutter-free zone.

Don’t let spills & carpet stains ruin your Holidays
Posted by: | Comments
It’s that time of year when the traffic on your carpet increases with parties and holiday visitors. The likelihood of spills and stains appearing on your carpets also increases and it is important to use the correct product on the stain, otherwise you could end up with an even bigger mess on your hands.
Here’s a quick checklist:
- Cornstarch can be applied to fresh grease spots to absorb them
- Dry cleaning fluids or oil solvents can be used for greasy residues, but be careful as these can also delaminate the latex binding the primary and secondary layers of your carpet
- White wine or club soda can be applied to red wine spills
- A combination of solvents and clear dish washing liquid for all purpose stains
- Glycerin or rubbing alcohol works on most ball point inks.
- White vinegar and water applied to pet puddles works well. Remember to blot.
- Eye droppers and cotton swabs make application easier.
- Always use clean white towels for blotting not rubbing.
- Place these items in a handy carry all tray so you’re ready when needed. Quick response is always our best remedy.

Candle wax on your carpet?
Posted by: | Comments
Have you ever spilled candle wax on your carpet? This accident tends to happen more frequently during the holiday season. However, you may be able to remove the candle wax yourself by following these instructions:
- Using a spoon or dull knife, carefully scrape off as much excess wax as possible.
- Place aluminum foil over the bottom of your iron to prevent wax from getting on it. Set the iron on the low dry heat setting.
- Place two layers of paper towels over the wax spill on the carpet or upholstery. Place the low heated iron on top of the paper towels. The heat from the iron will start to melt the wax and it will wick up into the paper towels.
- As the paper towels absorb the wax, rotate them to clean areas and continue to apply the iron’s heat until all the wax is absorbed into the paper towels.
- You may find that some color from the candle remains on your carpet even after the wax is cleaned off. It is possible for the candle dyes to transfer into the carpet fibers. The dyes used in candles are extremely difficult, if not impossible to clean out even for professional cleaners. This discoloration may be permanent. Check with us first as you may need a professional carpet repair person to cut out the affected area and replace it with extra carpet. This may be your only recourse to remove the unsightly stain.
Please use safety precautions with candles. Parade Magazine reports that December is the peak month for candle fires in the U.S. Nearly 13,000 occur annually, causing more than $175 million in property damage. Never leave candles unattended, that is when the National Fire Protection Association says most accidents occur. For safety tips, visit www.nfpa.org/candles.

Tips for Hosting a Green Thanksgiving
Posted by: | Comments
If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year for your family, neighbors and friends, here are some easy ways to make the celebration a little greener:
- Avoid using disposable plastic, Styrofoam or paper plates and replace them with reusable ones.
- Use cloth napkins, if it’s practical with your number of guests.
- Use stainless or silverware, instead of plastic.
- Use glass, or ceramic cups and mugs.
- Compost your kitchen food scraps from Thanskgiving, remembering you cannot compost meat or grease.
- Reuse plastic margarine tubs or yoghurt containers for storing Thanksgiving leftovers.
- Lower the lights to create a warm ambiance that’s relaxing. You could use sustainable candles to create a flattering light, keeping in mind safety at all times.
- Keep a recycle trash can in your kitchen so that it’s easy for your guests to see and use.
- Buy locally grown fruit and vegetables to prepare your Holiday food. It will taste delicious and be more eco-friendly. Try the local Farmer’s Market for produce.
- REMEMBER, it’s good to be passionate about “Being Green”, but don’t spend your Thanksgiving preaching! Your guests are there to have fun and enjoy your good food, drink and excellent company. Hopefully seeing your great ideas will encourage others to follow suit.
ENJOY!
Keeping Your Carpet Clean For Longer
Posted by: | Comments
I love this time of year in Arizona. The weather is finally beginning to cool, cinnamon and pumpkin smells tickle our noses and taste buds as we enter the local grocery stores, and the evenings are cool but not cold. We start to feel like Thanksgiving and the Holidays are just around the corner, along with visitors and Holiday gatherings. If you get your carpets professionally cleaned for Thanksgiving, how do you keep them clean enough for the Holidays and into the New Year?
Here are 5 tips to keep the clean for longer….
- Keep the dirt outside where it belongs by leaving your shoes at the door.
- Keep the exterior entrances to your home free of dirt, and sweep porches or decks regularly.
- Be sure to keep exterior “welcome” mats at every door and keep them clean.
- Place walk-off mats inside the doorways and keep them clean.
- Use small area rugs inside that can be laundered in your washing machine.
Happy Halloween!

Removing spooky Halloween stains….Part 2
Posted by: | Comments
Last week we looked at one method for removing those scary Halloween chocolate stains from your carpet. Today we look at an alternative method for removing chocolate stains which is just as effective.
Halloween should be remembered for fun costumes, smiling children, laughter, trick or treating, and of course candy! Halloween should not come back to haunt us months afterwards with scary chocolate stains lurking on your carpet or area rug!
Here are some helpful hints for getting rid of those spooky chocolate stains. Remember that some carpets and rugs will need special treatment and care, and do not rub in a circular motion on your carpet or rug as you could damage the fibres.
Removing Chocolate Stains
- Let the chocolate dry. Scrape off as much as possible with a dull butter knife and then vacuum the crumbs with a hand vacuum or vacuum hose.
- Using an iron on the lowest non-steam setting carefully arrange a layer of paper towels over the stain. Iron the paper towels to soften the chocolate. The paper towels will start to absorb the stain.
- DO NOT use too much heat as this will melt the chocolate and make the stain larger.
- Replace with fresh paper towels as the chocolate soils them. Repeat until the stain is gone.
- Treat any remaining dark spots with a spot remover.
If in doubt, contact Clean N’ Fresh Cleaning Service and we’ll get your carpets looking spotless for Thanksgiving!
