Children have returned, or are about to return to school in Arizona. We experience more traffic on the local roads in the morning and early afternoon, the long summer break is over and homework begins again. Our houses are quiet during the day. The new school year is another milestone in our children’s lives and we wonder where on earth the summer break, that we complained was too long, disappeared to.
A new school year is a great time to clean, and implement simple systems that will have your family running like clockwork (not literally!).
In most homes there is a flurry of activity as tired and hungry children return home from their day at school accompanied by their back packs, lunch boxes, books, folders, paper, etc… There CAN be a tendency for all of this to be thrown down and left randomly in the house. This leads to an unnecessary scramble the next morning or later that evening when homework has to be retrieved.
Insist on lunch boxes being emptied and ice packs returned to the refrigerator as soon as they arrive home. It only takes seconds and saves minutes later on, as well as reducing stress. This is also a good time to ask if there is any paperwork to be signed and returned to school.
Hang backpacks on a wall hook in the laundry room where they can be picked up ready the next morning. Alternatively buy a plastic box where each child can keep their back pack and other school equipment and PE clothes. Makes it alot easier to find what they need for the next day.
Last but not least, encourage your children to gather the clothes they will be wearing, signed paperwork that needs to be returned, and homework the night before. Good luck!
