Thinking of cleaning up your house and putting it on the market?
Now may be a good time.
Home prices nationwide jumped more than 10 percent in March, compared to a year ago, and the Valley is leading the country in that effort.
Prices in Phoenix are up more than 22 percent from March 2012 to March 2013, according to an Associated Press article in the East Valley Tribune. With the price increases, more people are coming up from being “under water” in the mortgages, experts say. That may put more of them in a position to move from their current homes.
According to Realtor.com, there are a few areas to focus on while prepping the house for the market:
First, look at the outside of the home. Make sure it looks neat and clean. Remove clutter such as children’s toys and hoses. Add potted plants.
Next, examine the kitchen. Like the front of the house, remove clutter such as small appliances. Give the room a new coat of paint. Make sure it’s clean and everything shines.
Finally, don’t miss the bathrooms. They need to be “clean and bright.” Are fixtures updated? Are walls fresh looking? Should wallpaper be removed? “Combine that with a thorough cleaning job and you may be ready to go to market,” the website states.
